Summary: The author argues that teaching preservice teachers effectively includes knowing oneself and sharing about oneself.

1. Life map: Share the contours of your life with students and encourage them to develop their own life map.

2. Questioning: Teach students the power of asking questions.

3. Empathy and tolerance: Nurture in young people empathy for thier fellow human beings and tolerance for what is different.
